Bandwidth needs to double about 10 times a year, said [WorldCom CEO] Sidgmore, who spoke during the NationsBanc Montgomery Securities Conference. "The communications network of the 21st century will be built to support the computer-to-computer world, not to support human interaction," he said. "To get to grow 1,000 percent [a year], the technology doesn't exist today. ... Don't get depressed. We will find a way to solve this."

Not to mention the downtime, the hackers, etc. etc and yes - still the latency that will always be inherent in an overloaded packet-switched data network.

Perhaps in 3 or 4 or more years, but corporates are just now starting to realize the need for integrated access. It's too bad it took so long for the corporates to recognize this but luckily BT is even better than ever now.

What was mentioned in that "letter" - financial services arena ??
