Company Press Release

Vancouver Community College Purchases ALYA System

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 13, 1998--ALYA International Inc. (OTC/BB:ALYA - news) has received a purchase order from the Vancouver Community College for a new security-management system for the King Edward Campus and also to upgrade the system at the City Centre Campus.

This will allow the Vancouver Community College to centralize its campuswide security needs into one location. One of the system's selling features is that it is modular, allowing for simple expansion to the remaining portions of the campus at a future date.

The ALYA O.P.E.N.centrix Security Management System rides upon a customer's present network, reducing costs for the implementation of a communication infrastructure.

ALYA will additionally benefit from this installation by having a reference site close to its research-and-development facility in Vancouver, British Columbia. Prospective customers and distributors will be able to visit ALYA and the community college to see the company's system in operation.

Similarly, ALYA's installation at the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (a crown corporation) has recently been written up for a trade magazine (Consulting Specifying Engineer, appearing in March) as one of the first LonWorks-functioning buildings in the world, and numerous trade and industry executives and interested customers have come to Vancouver to visit this site.

One of the customer groups that ALYA and its distributors are targeting for sales of its security-management system is universities and for other campus-type applications. The installation at Vancouver Community College will provide verification and credibility of ALYA's capabilities.

ALYA International is a leader in software design using Microsoft's Windows NT, Echelon's LonWorks technology and local- and wide-area-networks communication protocols. ALYA's first product, O.P.E.N.cortex, is a development platform based on these de facto standards directed to companies implementing applications for end users such as building-management systems and process-control applications.

ALYA has utilized this platform in the design of its second product, O.P.E.N.centrix, an application for security systems and building access. LonWorks technology is a de facto standard in the building-automation and process-control industries, providing a new standard for open architecture and interoperable control systems.

LonWorks is endorsed by the LonMark Association, supported by Motorola, Honeywell Inc. [NYSE:HON - news], Johnson Controls Inc. [NYSE:JCI - news], Olivetti, BTE and Toshiba Corp. ALYA is one of the first companies to develop ''plug and play'' open architecture (ALYA's O.P.E.N. -- ''Open Platform for Essential Networks'') hardware and software for the security and control industries.
