Doug: I don't think Adaptec has pulled away from 1394. In fact, in early February it released a press article titled "Adaptec Affirms Position in 1394 Market".

"Adaptec, Inc. has announced its intention to focus its 1394 efforts on the growing opportunities in the digital video, imaging, and peripheral device markets. The company has been a leading supplier of add-in 1394 host adaptors, software, and peripheral silicon."

In the same article, Adaptec announced it was PULLING BACK from developing silicon for the Device Bay initiative, citing "the lack of mainstream 1394 computer peripherals in the market. . . . With regard to Device Bay, Adaptec believes this is an important opportunity for 1394, however it has not come to market as quickly as we had hoped. Our decision to defer Device Bay silicon development does not impact our other 1394 efforts or our commitment to the broader marketplace for 1394. . . ."

You may be thinking of the Device Bay "pulling back".
