I can't help but think the GTE CEO really dislikes Bernie Ebbers. He makes Bernie pay up for MCI by trying to buy MCI himself when he had little chance to pull it off and now, with about the same chances, he takes this tact to give Bernie even more headaches. I'll bet his primary intention is to give Justice and the EU more fuel with which to justify blocking or limiting the merger in some way. An ill wind blows somewhere between these two. Or maybe it's just competition.
