RACE is an integrator, the buy old parts off the shelf (they still don't have a 56K version) and cobble them together into very small quantities for product trials and what few sales they have managed to land. Those sales have come after years of effort and, one would suppose, by leveraging relationships which have developed over many years in this industry. Needless to say, that underscores just how badly they have done with this product and those which preceded it.

Let's cut through the noise and the accusations being leveled by the few remaining bull(s) and consider what we have here: a non-standard, low-speed, run-of-the-mill voice and data integration. Well, those systems are a dime a dozen. Moreover, H.323 is the new international standard which they will have to meet to be interoperable with equipment that will soon be hitting the streets. They don't support that, they don't support VOIP. Snow jobs notwithstanding, that's the bottom line.

Right, so they have this non-standard multiplexor built around aging parts and they need to interface it with popular PBX systems. I hope nobody will be surprised to find that PBX to PC interface cards have been growing on trees in anticipation of Voice/Data integration using international standards. These cards are not rocket science. They are cheap and available. What RACE has is yet-another PBX interface which I doubt is worth much given the vast number of alternatives. Lastly there are the voice compression and decompression modules which also abound. The industry is focusing on a select few for standardization. Once again, that technology is cheap and available.

Finally, all they purport to offer for all the proprietary hardware and software are a few minor conveniences which pale in comparison to a wide variety of alternatives.

Now, you can call this conjecture if you like but I'm willing to bet that I'm pretty close to the mark on all of this and the dismal sales certainly don't argue against me. I would also argue that RACE itself made public reference to both compatibility issues and VOIP issues. I seriously doubt this trailing edge integrator is going to make it with the current product. Look for further dilution followed by a last-ditch lunge for the already crowded Computer Telephoney bandwagon.
