Hi Brian,

Wall Street does not like Sun, is what you stated. I fully agree!
But let the facts be known. From Business Wire dated 11/12/96 that Sun lowers their prices for the UltraSparc. This put tremendous pressure on Windows NT, and specifically one company Compaq. Sun's revenues are almost the same as Microsoft yet their market cap is much smaller. Why? Because the so-called professional investors look at the what they consider the bottom line (earnings reports). Correct me if I'm wrong but Sun's earnings report beat estimates by .01 per share. The stock shoots through the roof and goes over $70. Suddenly by the next week goes down in the $60-65 range. Also, MSFT just makes software which has low overhead while Sun makes the whole deal.
Yet, the company that suffers is Sun.
There is a saying that goes "when you buy a stock you're not buying a piece of paper you are buying a company". Sun is the company with the best products for new technology in the computer industry. They have always done it with class and teaming with others to create a universally better product for everyone. Sun's only problem is name-branding with the commoners, people like you and me but that is about to change with their JavaStations. Sun's current situation only presents a better buying opportunity, what's the motto "buy low and sell hi". Sun's management has a clear vision for the future and the products to back it up. Does Microsoft?
Don't get me wrong, Microsoft is a great company with good leadership but the fields that they want to enter is not their cup of tea. They have yet to define their concrete goals and have used the media to create hype without substance. They have stated software they will create for the future but the future is still the future not the present. THE PRESENT BELONGS TO SUNW and Mr. Gates knows it. Notice how Microsoft presents a product, that talk about before its ready while Sun will not say anything until they have actually created THE PRODUCT. The media is why Microsoft has greater market Cap but like all great companies of the past there will be a time when Microsoft will not be able to meet analysts expectations. Guess what, the period in which they are most vunarable is the NEXT TWO YEARS.
I've said my peace,

Ellison
