But other Analysts keep talking gloom and doom. The following appeared on Sunday 5-17-98 on Yahoo's site citing Bill Meehan of Cantor Fitzgerald, who has been very bearish since last December:

"Troubled Asian economies were cited as one of the reasons for the 13 percent drop in Hewlett-Packard's (HWP - news) fiscal second quarter
profits reported on Friday.

The company warned of disappointing profits at the last minute, sending its share price plunging on Thursday.

Meehan said the Hewlett-Packard earnings warning should have been a wake-up call alerting investors that more disappointing earnings were
coming in the second half of the year due in part to the ''Asian flu''.

''Companies aren't going to be able to deliver the earnings most people expect,'' he said.

Comments like this create a great deal of uncertainty among investors, especially those who are in the market with a near term time horizon. Eventually, things have got to turn...but Meehan and others of his ilk won't tell you it has happened until it has already happened and too late for the individual investor to profit from the turn around.
