Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!! Finally, the infamous Twister! Welcome to the group, I got my wish, A MICROSOFT fanatic! What took you so long?
That's a great web page for Microsoft Propaganda. WHY? I've decided to use a neutral investment tool called Market Guide, a company that is dependent on giving acurate information. Their exact revenue for the first quarter of 97' was 2.300 Billion, the previous quarter(6/30) was at 2.255 Billion. An impressive increase of .045 Billion dollars or less than .5% (1/200th) This next quarter should be just as impressive. In fact isn't a 14% growth rate compared to last year a sign of the company slowing down. For Fiscal 1996 the growth rate was at 46%. That is why it has been at its' new highs. Yet, no one is worried about its' competition from many different angles. Or that it is heavily dependent on NT this coming quarter. They have stated that NT has grown 19% in revenue. All workstation vendors are growing rapidly, it has a higher growth rate than PC's. Sun has grown 14% the last quarter but its' revenue base is much higher for workstations. Win 95 and Windows NT revenue is only $1.19 Billion. What percentage does NT represent? Since Sun is twice as big and only growing 5% slower how long would it take for NT to be the leader? 14.4 Quarters or almost 4 years, and that is a generous analysis! Everyone has been praising the growth of NT but it's a new product. A new product that is suppose to replace the UNIX, right. A 19% growth rate is not impressive at all. If NT is the product its' suppose to be, it should be growing at least 30%, similar to when Win 95 came out. They have created almost as many workstations using NT but generate only 20% of the revenue. This next quarter will be decisive. Some of my friends have bought Pentium Pros with NT in them, and they can't afford unix workstations, they use the computers to have a web server, do graphics(movie industry), or just simply want a faster computer. They know of the UNIX workstation and would have preferred to buy UNIX's. Let's admit what the NT and Pentium Pro are, its' just a souped up PC.
Until then, I guess we will agree to disagree,
