What's wrong with this statement:

"Justice believes that a jury would not convict once it learned that the President had found" the latest Loral satellite launching "to be in the national interest," the memorandum stated. (from today's NYT)

The memorandum is the 2/12/98 document from National Security Advisor Sandy Berger to Clinton.

I think it's interesting because there's an implicit premise upon which their conclusion rests and IMHO that's a shakey premise.

There are people openly questioning whether our current President has the ability to make an intellectually honest decision on what is in the national interest.

While there maybe always be people who fit that category, the problem is that this scandal has parts of the non-political center shifting in that direction.

Are the our high-level DOJ officials that out of touch, that insulated, that corrupted by political considerations that now they can't even honestly evaluate a potential jury pool?

Good trading,

Tom
