Microsoft does not provide upgrades, they sell new products
that are more or less compatible from product to product.
Word 2 to Word 6 is a good example. I've never demanded
their kind of upgrade. I've begged for fixes but all I've
received is the latest wiz bang widget that I'll use once
in a blue moon and a new set of bugs. The true cost of
the wintel platform is dealing with the curves thrown
by these upgrades.
