CHINA HELPS IRAN TO MAKE NERVE GAS By Con Coughlin From: LONDON TELEGRAPH (Issue #1094 - Sunday, May 24, 1998) IRAN has concluded a secret deal with China to purchase banned chemicals that will enable it to become self-sufficient in producing large stockpiles of advanced nerve gas. The deal was negotiated by Iran's main defence procurement agency, the Defence Industry Organisation, with the Tianjin branch of China's SinoChem organisation earlier this year. It was concluded last month when Iran took delivery of 500 tons of materials banned under the terms of the internationally-recognized Chemical Warfare Convention, to which Iran is a signatory.
