Al: Agreed, it will also be interesting to see how LU plays into this roll for service providers and such.

As you roll through this release, lucent.com the fork in the road, just grew another IP Highway.

I remember back with Frank Colcuicco? <close>, ggg wrote about gateways not being the only IP transfer point in the near future. That rang a bell last night in regards to PBX's. These vendors are in the most competitive environment they have ever seen. With the potential to lose business to PC PBX vendors, they are scrambling to stay on the leading edge. There has been allot of announcements lately in regards to PBX's knowing the changing market and the competitive threats.

LU in the press release also has a PC-based Internet market. These IP telephony trunks, interface into its communications servers. By introducing IP telephony trunk interfaces directly into the switch/servers, the need for an independent gateway is eliminated. Thats one reason why we see all the telephony companies on a percentage basis 50% drop from their 52-week high. We must remember these guys have been around since ma-bell and ain't taken on unnecessary crap from punks just off the street. ggg

When speaking of the most useful features of the PBX, the least cost routing, and class-of-service-differentiation comes to mind. Now these features can be used for calls made over packet networks as well. ****The PBX can be configured to route calls through the Internet when traffic is usually light and can also route calls through an intranet when traffic on the internet is usually heavy.***

Of course the last **** statement was referring to PBX switching, but can you see how the second part "intranets" or FNet Network could also be a major PBX-rollplayer. ggg

The word PBX can take on many forms, especially when referring to a private-branch> : ) FNetCorp PBX? he he he

The big advantage that PBX's have now is its overall years in service, and minimal training (assuming you have a switch that supports Internet telephony trunks.

PC based gateways are coming into their own, Franklin is aware of that with the mini-Tempest they are building. As a service provider, the PC-based gateway makes a great deal of sense , since the ability to enhance the main functionality of the gateway including the "tempest" is the IVR capabilities (interactive voice response), which allows debits accounts, etc, etc. Franklin is aware that billing systems can also be implemented more easily on a PC based platform.

IT will be interesting to see how your "telecom resellers" and "departments" respond to the LU news.

To me, the FNet Network will be all things to all> PBX, server/switch, intranet, internet, the total gateway with QoS (quality of service).

History in the making............?

Yes-Temp'

ps...I am waiting for Ken Persson of computertelephony.org to return my e-mail for an unbiased opinion on this subject.

This site gets more hits than PulverCom and ComputerTelephonyCom combined. ggg
