Divesting will slow overall MCI revenue growth:

MCI's fast-growing Internet unit was expected to have 1998 revenues of about $220 million and 1999 revenues of more than $300 million, the company said.

Loss of this revenue would not be significant to the combined MCI-WorldCom. The two companies have said they expect their combined sales to total more than $30 billion next year.

The divestiture of the Internet unit will reduce MCI's operating income, but this will be somewhat offset by reduced interest expenses, MCI officials said in a conference call with analysts.
