Cris: When Intel made that announcement, I believe it steered 1394 interest to Adaptec products, among others. Also, you may recall in early February Adaptec itself scaled back its 1394 work, specifically regarding Device Bay noting: "With regard to Device Bay, Adaptec believes this is an important opportunity for 1394, however it has not come to market as quickly as we had hoped. Our decision to defer Device Bay silicon development does not impact our other 1394 efforts or our commitment to the broader marketplace for 1394. We are directing our efforts toward the many other areas of 1394 development where we can add value today, primarily the DV and peripheral device markets."

There was some cynicism among companies supporting Device Bay that Adaptec's decision was merely an attempt to extend the life of SCSI systems. Intel's announcement appears to validate Adaptec's reasoning.

Whatever the case, 1394 does not appear to be rushing into the picture right now.
