You must be able to speak freely with your lawyer so that you might obtain the best defense possible and/or have your rights asserted as vigorously as possible. Remember in criminal proceedings we are all presumed innocent until proven guilty. In civil matters, the plaintiff must usually prevail by at least a preponderance of evidence. There is no 5th Amendment right in a civil proceeding. It benefits us all. As the Clinton investigations show however, the American system of jurisprudence always seems to protect those most who abuse it most. JLA
