The point I was attempting to make with the pipe comment was the stretch being made to think Hearst was a benefactor of FDR. Admittedly, I'm not privy to the financials, i.e. did ol' Kane fork over a few bucks to the aspiring FDR? But if he did, he sure was hoodwinked; in thought, sentiment, and action, they had precious little common with each other.
