Mark,

I agree with your points on the rationale behind the stock price decrease of late. Nothing really new there such as decreased earnings and changes in market direction. However, from the technical perspective, Adaptec has some pretty good write ups on their web site on the differences between SCSI and EIDE/UDMA technologies. I've worked before for a well known high performance computer company. Their servers and engineering workstations with more than one disk required not only a high speed memory access but also fast disk access over multiple disks to get enough data pumped to the memory to keep the CPUs busy. The practicality by design of SCSI allowed striping across multiple disks on multiple SCSI channels to achieve the high data volume access required when crunching large amounts of data for a large web server, CAD designs, weather prediction, etc ... Sure, the average Joe doesn't need this but even the average Joe could benefit from having a home PC with a SCSI card on which they can plug multiple internal and external disks, scanners and the like. Using a SyJet or Jaz drive you could boot with multiple O/S environments and even boot up with a backed up copy of your current O/S installation should your main disk fail. A much quicker and painless recovery than having to reinstall everything from tape or CD when the unexpected happens. Plus, are we forgetting the new technologies like SCSI-2 and firewire as having some value to support a higher price than today's close?

Comments welcome.
