Tom: Given Adaptec's performance since October, I'd say your chances were much, much better of anticipating the CDR announcements than predicting the bottom. You made the "easy" call.

There has been a relatively steady stream of new/enhanced product announcements over the last 2-3 weeks. The company is really working hard to market its Ultra 2 SCSI products.

I saw an article posted on another thread--"Death of the PC-Centric Era" by Frank Gens

idc.com

It projects the emergence of the internet appliance taking a good bit of the PC market by 2001/2002 and how that could affect many aspects of the PC business. One potential boon for Adaptec and disk drive makers would be the need for storage: ". . . it's a good bet that even the "thinnest" appliances will require large amounts of RAM. Likewise, these devices will create large new market opportunities for suppliers of modems, hard drives, displays, and printers."

I would suppose this would also hold true for the advent of DVB, where businesses/individuals downloading huge amounts of data (business, entertainment, etc.)from satellites directly into computers would need large storage capacities and fast means of retrieval. Moreover, many of those PCs would have Adaptec Satellite Receiver cards.
