Exploration & Production opportunities in light of historically low crude prices...

While this is the ''Strictly Drilling'' thread; it would be an oversite not to share what I have found to be the most intriguing ''story'' since my entry into to oil sector. We all are familiar with the driller and service stocks as covered so well on this board. However, in light of historically low crude prices - commodity/asset based E&P companies may offer historic opportunities in light of the present crude enviroment. I had posted requesting further info concerning an appearance on CNBC this past week by Gary Kamminsky of Cowen & Co. He was speaking about a project that he called ''the biggest winner -you will ever own'' involving Suncor Energy/SU and Central Pacific Minerals/CPMNY and Southern Pacific Petroleum/SPPTY in Australia using technology from Suncor's Oil Sands project in Canada. If anyone takes the time to read the background on Suncor's Oil Sands project in Canada and the Stuart Project in Australia, which is a joint venture between Suncor, CPMNY and SPPTY; you will find it at worst; extremely educational - technologically speaking and at best - perhaps the single most intriguing investment opportunity that exists in the oil sector today...

I do not want to be accussed of ''hyping'' - I do not own Suncor Energy, Central Pacific Minerals or Southern Pacific Petroleum as ''yet'' - monday may be an entirely different story however...

This is a speculative asset play based on the successfull transition of technology proven to be successfull, financially and technologically from the Oil Sands of Canada; to be exported to Australia's shale reserves, which are substantial - to say the least. After my research and due dilligence - I would have to say this is a ''thinking man's'' speculation. The risk vs. reward scenario is a technology bet on Suncor's ability to execute the transition of their proven expertise in Oil Sands to shale. I would be especially gratefull to hear the response of Industry peoeple who may be familiar with Suncor and their oil sands project/technology specifically and their comments after reviewing the Stuart project technology developed by Suncor for CPMNY & SPPTY's Australian shale fields. - Douglas Fant, Big Dog, PV etc - are you familiar with this ? comments anyone ?

To all; please excuse my ''irrational exuberance'' concerning the oil sector... however, I have 20-25 years untill retirement (would like to retire in 10 as a goal) and see opportunities that exist in the Oil Sector that may not happen again for decades... I'll stop short of calling it a ''once in a lifetime opportunity''; but I see the opportunity personally as a relative young man; to aggressively leverage myself into a sector that is not based on ''hyper-technology'' without present earnings like the Internet stocks or other high-tech ventures, but rather one of the basic commodity-prime drivers of the worlds economy - "Energy''. Oil specifically, for which I personally see a tremendous increase in demand - given the modernization of Mexico, Central-South America let alone the industrialization of eastern Europe/Russia and most importantly China/Asia. As we are at historically low crude oil price levels - I see not only tremendous opportunities in the driller & service stocks but tremendous opportunity in more commodity/asset oriented E&P companies like Suncor and their partners in the Australian ''Stuart project''. Without enthusiasm or risk taking - no great success other than ''inheritance'' has occurred... While some may risk everything they own on opening a new business etc. - I view the risk side of my investments in the same light as opening a new business - investing in my ideas, research and risk tolerance. I say - we've seen the bottom and the future is ''white-hot'' - bright in the oil sector...
