This was in today's Washington Times:
A Washington-area defense contractor asked a co-worker this week to help him locate somebody in the Defense Department. She handed him a very large book of Pentagon organization charts that their firm acquired in October. "As you'd expect," writes the contractor, "the first page starts with the Office of the Secretary of Defense, William Cohen, and his key staff. Next is the office of the Asst. Secretary of Defense for Legislative Affairs and her key staff. "The third unit listed is found on the second page. It is the office of the Asst. Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs, Kenneth Bacon, and his key staff. His name caught my eye since it has so often been in the papers recently. But my jaw dropped when I noticed the first name after Bacon's: 'Confidential Assistant -- Monica Lewinsky.' "Of course, you can read a lot into the job title, 'Confidential Assistant for Public Affairs.' Besides the obvious oxymoron, it is an appropriate double entendre if press reports are true ... "What really burns me is the fact that a former White House intern with no distinguishing qualifications or experience is the 27th name listed in a directory of our nation's defense department, right along with the Deputy Secretaries, Directors, and Special Assistants. It's both an insult to them and a joke on all of us. And when you think about how she apparently got there, it's downright disgusting." |
