Chris:

Ah, now I get it. As long as the definitions are fluid, words can mean anything in the speaker's lexicon. Shades of Orwell's 1984, where the Ministry of Truth was actually the state propaganda machine, and the Ministry of Peace was responsible for warfare.

Now the question becomes: when Clinton is asked to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, can he redefine enough terms to convince us that he's not guilty of whatever charges are leveled at him?

His curiously-phrased denial of having "sex with that woman.... Miss Lewinsky" was about the most clumsy denial I'd ever heard - until I stopped to think of the implications of the verbal structure. And we saw the same rhetoric used in 1996 when his campaign accused the Republicans of wanting to cut Medicare, when in fact they advocated raising it.

I was out of the country when the Flowers scandal came up, and the reports I got from the European media was that he denied it. Thanks for the clarification.
