Imatron Announces Major Enhancement For Ultrafast CT(R) Scanner at RSNA
Upgraded Software Triples Image Acquisition Capability
SO. SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Imatron Inc announced that a new, enhanced version of software for its C-150 Ultrafast CT(R) Scanner, providing three times the image acquisition capacity of the current C-150 scanner, has entered clinical Beta testing. The announcement was made at the 82nd Scientific Assembly of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) held in Chicago on December 1-5, 1996.
According to S. Lewis Meyer, President and CEO of Imatron, "This new software version for the C-150 Ultrafast CT(R) Scanner represents the most significant system performance upgrade in five years. This software provides the C-150 with the capability to acquire more than three times the number of images that could be previously obtained in a single breathhold, thereby greatly expanding applications for the chest and abdomen, as well as improving the ability to scan patients, such as infants, who are unable to remain motion-free for extended periods of time. This new image acquisition capability expands the number of images that can be acquired from 40 cross- sectional images in 15 seconds to 140 images in 15 seconds."
Mr. Meyer added, "The Ultrafast CT(R) Scanner has received considerable attention at the RSNA annual meeting. Every year we see a growing number of papers and seminars dealing with our technology, and this year was no exception; more than twelve papers and seminars featured Electron Beam Tomography (EBT). In addition, our proprietary technology generated unprecedented interest at the technical exhibit, where five different advanced display workstations were highlighted, presenting 3-D results from the Imatron Ultrafast CT(R) scanner. EBT has now become the technology of choice in solving many unique clinical problems such as non-invasive evaluation of coronary arteries, detection of pulmonary embolism, and related thoracic problems. The new technical capabilities of our Ultrafast CT(R) scanner will further expand its unique clinical role for advanced diagnostic applications."
