ON NEWS AND POLITICS IN BELIZE:
The press release carried in The Reporter bze.net is a near exact restatement of the original press release on the Belize gov. site. The Reporter simply picked it up from there and replayed it because WE (investors) made such a racket about it-calling and emailing and hollering-that they couldn't help but hear about it. Let's get real about what The Reporter is-they simply send out their lackeys to grab at whatever news is already self-evident IE: "two burglars shot today report police", or "government denies mortgage deal with PRWT, reports gov". They just rehash the stuff already available, and make absolutely NO in depth analysis or commentary. Therefore, the re-release of the governments statement regarding PRWT has NO bearing on the issue of legitimacy. The gov. press release seems politically motivated and probably placed in ignorance of a new deal made. We shall just have to wait and see on that one.
To say that PRWT has fashioned all this out of LIES is simply unverifiable at this point and highly unlikely considering the authenticity of their other interests which include Insider Trading-which will be immensely profitable. It is also highly unlikely that they would create such a scam as it would mean certain jail sentences-and long ones! Not to mention being hunted down by investors out for serious blood.
Reading the news releases in the Belize Times, it becomes quickly apparent that the media in Belize is divided among the two parties, UDP and PUP. As for being reported in The Reporter, has everyone compared the different news outlets available? TV Channel 5, radio station LOVE FM, and The Reporter all churn out the "non-news" fluff-most of their stories are about who crashed their car and who got shot with no real commentary at all. The only source of news that has ANY political dialog is the Belize Times, and it is quite an insightful look into the political conflict in Belize. This voice of PUP has obviously been very effective for exposing what they consider a shambles the current party (UDP) has the country in. The elections approach, so the question might now be, which party are we/will we be dealing with, because all the news sources I have read coming out of Belize seems to indicate that the PUP will win by exceedingly popular vote. Is it possible that PRWT's deal with the UDP is legitimate and signed, but someone(s) in the UDP found out PRWT's office is located in the King St. address of Glen Goodfrey (supposedly), a know member of the opposing party and whom PRWT has no political association with? Just speculating of course :)
Regardless, would it matter which party ended up wining? I doubt it, because the deal seems to be signed with the current gov. according to everything we have been told, so we win if they remain; likewise, the PUP is devoted to increasing affordable housing and construction jobs. As to the project, ground has already been broken, houses are being built, and the contractor responsible for the building has already stated that, and that the PR mess is political BS that will resolve itself and things will be business as usual. With the building already begun, the PDP would not enter office by halting the very thing they most strongly support. I believe this entire PR maneuver was an internal political squabble, but business is business and the deal's done.
