OT- This example is used in Steven Covey's books.

Two of the seven habits from his book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" revolve around this illustrative example; the 2nd habit "Start with the End in Mind" and the 3rd habit "First Things First". In fact, Covey went on and wrote what I believe is the best time management (personal management) book ever written, called "First Things First". I use a time management system constructed using the ideas in that book, and highly recommend it for someone has patience and perserverance and wants to spend their life more effectively.

I must admit, even with these techniques, practicing the discipline that's necessary to avoid frittering away my time on non-critical activities is very difficult.

Well anyway, one good thing about knowing and practicing this discipline, is the focus on 'positive activities' instead of the 'blame game' activities that often permeate many organizations and these threads.
