I believe the Republican Congress deserves a lot of credit for moving the Democratic President to the right. After all, his entire strategy is based on weakly co-opting Republican issues, such as Welfare Reform, Balanced Budget, and Crime in order to enable him to try to craft grand liberal schemes, such as Socialized Health Care and Greater Weath Redistribution. The bigger credit for the long economic expansions belongs to the farily lengthy recessions in 1980-1982 and 1990-1992 which killed off excesses in inflation and oil prices.
