Fair value, like beauty may be more in the eye of the beholder than anywhere else. S&P lists PeopleSoft's fair value as 79.25 the last time I checked in late July. According to S&P www site, they use a proprietary method to determine fair value. All this is very theoretical, because right now all anyone wants to pay for it is the bid price. I don't own any PSFT at the moment but am following it closely. There is support at the 32 to 32.5 range, so if it gets there it might be a good buy. It's main competitor SAP deserves a higher multiple because of it's gorilla status, but the gap between the two is too wide, and I think SAP's advantage is less as sales efforts switch to smaller companies.
