Thank you for the opportunity to clarify what this thread is about. You say that you are a cynic. Based upon the quote provided in your post, I believe you may mean that you are distrusting or disparaging of the motives of others. Based upon your tone and style I do not believe that you are showing contempt for standards of honesty and morality. These are of course two common definitions of cynical.

Well.... not quite counsellor.

Your definition above is that of "cynical", in addition it is incomplete, or deceiving, I do not know exactly as I do not know your motives to have presented it in such fashion.

Why ?

For starters, the definition you provided is for "CYNICAL". Not for "Cynic" small difference, but still a difference. I will explain:

In addition, while it is true that one of the accepted definitions of cynical is what you said, i.e. someone who shows contempt for standards of honesty and morality.

However, cynical ALSO includes precisely what you said in the prior sentence and you discounted it as not to be what I meant in my earlier definition of philosophy. You said:

"Based upon the quote provided in your post, I believe you may mean that you are distrusting or disparaging of the motives of others."

Distrusting and disparaging the motives of others are the key words.

If you do not believe me.... go ahead look it up, it is all there.

Now, for the definition of a "CYNIC" we have the following, and I believe it conveys my feelings exactly:

"A person who believes that only selfishness motivates human actions and who disbelieves in or minimizes selfless acts or disinterested points of views."

I do believe it does not require further explanation, but if you do, I suggest you look it up, if that does not convince you, I do not know what will. In any event, you can consider it as homework, without the need to report it back.

Oh, and by the way..... you do know what they say about cynics, don't you ? they say, that:

"Cynics are correct, 9 times out of ten"

Z.

p.s.

I think that you can also rest assured that not many people are listening to you or your thread as it has not been very busy, so.... maybe we should let dead dogs.... be dead.....
