I think that Japan holding for a day is of limited comfort.

If we close weak today, I suspect that Japan will get hit and then we'll gap down tomorrow -- from whence the rally that everyone was expecting may materialize.

Re HK--the government may have been able to stick it to the specs this go around but I doubt that it will deter them from trying again and the question then becomes one of whether the fundamentals can justify current valuations in that market. As we both know efforts to prop up markets or currencies are a short term respite--sooner or later reality will rear its head.
