The day I was at the pits at about 8:10 am cst there was a group formed behind the Goldman Sacs Index pit that was making quite a rucus. The trader I was with said that is where the settle the out-trades on the S&Ps. So I have to believe that they are settled in the morning prior to the open. I don't have any idea of the process and maybe the morning cattle call is simply to take care of those that are un-matchable or whatever by a computer.

I really don't know the process, other than there is a morning group that does some kind of out-cry process to settle out-trades.
