Melissa,

Companies sometimes issue press releases when the action in their stock has been unusual, and it is not always good news. Sometimes they say, "We know of no reason for the activity..." etc. But other times, they announce bad developments. I see the recent weakness in the stock as a potential reason for the call.

If there has been an unexpected development in the business usually you want to disclose it. Even if it's bad. actually, especially if it's bad.

This is why companies more frequently pre-announce bad earnings than good earnings. I know this is not a pre-announcement.

I think you could be right - that they could intend to reassure the investment community in light of the recent stock activity. But I think it's equally plausible that they have something to fess up to the investment community as well.

I wish everybody luck.
