According to people familiar with the situation, Mr. Wahl will become head of TriStrata Security Inc., a five-year-old Redwood Shores, Calif., company that is developing technology for protecting financial transactions over the Internet. The company was founded by John Atalla, a well-known researcher who was a major figure in developing the personal-identification-number systems used in bank automatic-teller machines. Its technology is based on a code system used since 1917 by the military and intelligence agencies.
