ORCL makes most of its money from database business. Its applications business had no growth in licenses, while the database licenses grew 13%. Not great #s historically, but definitely an improvement from past 2 qs. Anyway, this a plus for PSFT because if apps. business had picked up dramatically, everyone would have said that PSFT was losing business. PSFT still grew licenses over 50% and the conf. call was very positive, they will also provide visibility into '99 after they report their Sep. quarter. In this nkt. environment, when cos. are warning left and right, it is psychologically positive for software cos. for ORCL to show a decent quarter. The sky may not be falling afterall.
