A coward, imho, is one who runs snivelling to Mommie/Jill/SI
Bob.
Over anything - absolutely anything. Period.
Shame on you.
Charters is neither an american nor your racist fantasy, and while
he often has his foot in his mouth, he also has his tongue in his
cheek - if you take him literally you miss his points. And points he
has - on-topic Gold Price Monitor points #reply-5735766

Giraffe, I expect you have heard of the man who said he would
not help a man when the gestapo came for him? After the gestapo
took all his neighbours, one by one, and he did not defend any
because of assorted racist and other reasons, there was no one to
help him when the gestapo came for him.
So you should help your neighbours.
I read that post of Erics where he spoke of the nasty german
leader and I think his useage was as a reference to dictatorial
actions with no appeals, as a dictator would do. Eric should have
used a neutral dictator term and not an emotionally charged one.
I addition the use of certain terms that might be considered
anti-muslim have come from his keyboard.

Now I have posted far more that Eric and I bet there is not one
racist term in all I have said. A rare XXX word, but no racism ,
as it is not my nature.

Eric has to learn some humility and do some kind of penance to
earn his way back IMO.

I suspect he may have spent some time of the newsgroups where
calumny is rampant(sailors blush) and has had a problem
transitioning to a responsible group. With 3 prior kickoffs you
would think he would have learned his lesson.
He also has to learn not to swear or issue racist stuff reflexively,
like street people do.
Last post this subject unless another throws the ball back.

Giraffe Re: The Charter Affair

But I draw the line at two things - first of all the 'ugly' posts
(the ones that are nothing but viscious personal attacks or that
contain nasty slurs against other ethnic groups) . . .

This is a very serious charge. Can you substantiate it by posting
links to these "viscious personal attacks or that contain nasty slurs
against other ethnic groups?" It may also help to "Explain" SI
Bob's actions.

If not, I will have to assume your charges are without merit.

Also, Please see the following thread.

Giraffe Sez:
"It was me who reported Charters to the sys-admin."

So by stating this you are craving attention? I see no reason as to
why you would share this with us. If only to step up, cause you
think that you did smething proud? In Canada we have something
called "free speach" {Well, we thought we did} It's bad enough
that Market Makers on the TSE get gagged:

But now we post on SI, and we risk the problem of offending
people. Where do we draw the lines? Many people have said
things that are insulting, stupid, or down right slanderous. But we
are adults here? If you can't defend yourself here, than where?
Personally, I didn't find his comments offensive, but look at it this
way:

In Washington the other day, they had a million man march
praising black rights. Had this been a million men march praising
white rights, it would be deemed racist. So why wasn't the press
calling the the black million man march racist? Preception. Most
do not get offended as quickly as others. I'm am confident in
saying I'm not a racist. And as such am not offended by ANY
comments. I never found Charters comments as racists.

As someone who been in Jill Jail... I don't want to go there again.
It is a lonely place. But 1 week there is enough to calm everyone.
If the Ad-min wanted to, he could/can/does remove posts.

OFF TOPIC
(but on topic if you might suspect that mass-think and group
psychology might be useful in investment decisions)

From Giraffe: "If you say that I'm too politically correct, so be it.
I can live with that easier than thinking of myself as a coward."

Interesting thing, political correctness. Do you realize that it is
just bigotry and scapegoating that has the current approval of the
society where it exists.

Did it ever occur to you that it was politically correct to persecute
the Jews in Nazi Germany. Do you think the people who were
angry at the Jews and looking the other way while they were
disappearing and being murdered were going home and saying
"I'm a mean intolerant person"? No, they were participating in a
politically-correct and well-formulated rationalization as to why
the Jews were the cause of their unhappiness and fear; and, they
did it with a sense of justified self-righteousness.

It's also interesting to watch groups who have been victims of
persecution who then attain a power position. Very few in the
herd have learned anything from their victimization. Given some
power they become as cruel as their persecutors and are driven
by their self-righteousness. By this behavior the "what goes
around, comes around" wheel is given some more momentum,
guaranteeing that the eye-for-an-eye dynamic can last a few more
generations.

Our freedom of speech is supposed to allow us to express all the
political correctness (and incorrectness)we want, but having
people with an opinion different than ours proudly and
self-righteously eliminated seems to be a dangerous road to start
down if history is any indicator.
