County says trees must go

Mohave County officials plan to remove three old trees behind the
Mohave County Superior Court to make room for modular buildings
that will house the new Cerbat Justice Court and Superior Court
offices.

The trees will make way for a 60-by-36 modular building for Justice
Court and a 48-by-12 building for Superior Court offices, said Dick
Skalicky, county public works director.



Graffiti abatement is expensive

The City of Kingman spent approximately $600 in materials and
labor to remove graffiti last fiscal year. With nine months to go in this
fiscal year, that price tag is already about $250.

"We had more graffiti incidents last week than we had all year," Barry
Weathers, city equipment and maintenance supervisor said.

Golden Valley to get sheriff's substation

Golden Valley will soon have a Mohave County Sheriff's Office
substation all its own.

Sheriff Tom Sheahan said the substation, located at Magma Road
and State Route 68, will be a place where residents can pick up
crime-related literature and meet with deputies.



Brewgrass festival is Saturday

The second annual downtown Kingman Brewgrass festival is
scheduled to kick-off immediately following tomorrow's Andy Devine
Days parade. The festival, which is expected to run from about 11
a.m. until 4 p.m. on Beale Street between Sixth and Seventh streets,
will feature live bluegrass music and tastings of micro-brewed beer.

Tucson band Out of the Blue will be the featured performer. Event
organizer Terri Holloway said some local musicians are expected to
play with the band throughout the day.



City cops and DPS clearing city areas of transients

They came, they saw and while they may not have conquered the
problem, Kingman police Sgt. Rusty Cooper believes they curbed it.

The problem was an increase in crime in the area between Interstate
40 and Airway Avenue on Andy Devine Avenue, Cooper said. Six
months ago officers were being deluged with complaints about
criminal damage, panhandlers, drunk and disorderly people,
burglaries and thefts.



Laundromat robber foiled by clerk and conscience

A teen-aged would-be robber had his plan thwarted Thursday
morning by a laundromat clerk.

The clerk declined to give him the money after questioning his logic.

Devine Days parade is Saturday; traffic to be affected

The Kingman Police Department is reminding motorists that many of
downtown Kingman's streets will be closed Saturday from midnight
until noon for the Andy Devine Days parade.

Residents should not park on Beale Street between Grandview
Avenue and Seventh Street; on First Street between Spring and
Beale Streets; on Sixth Street between Spring and Beale Streets and
on Spring Street between Third and Sixth streets.
