interesting developments with Belize on the international front-

"Last week the Hon. Ralph Fonseca led a Belizean delegation
to the 53rd Annual General Meeting of the IMF/World Bank
Group of 182 member countries.....

The World Bank spoke of "a new development
partnership" and revealed that they had now "learned that
there is a need for balance", referring to their conservative
policies and basic human needs. President Clinton called for
attention to growth economics, and President Menem
articulated the Argentina success story.....

Meetings were also held with the World Bank and the
Inter-American Development Bank where project
prioritization, funding and management were agreed on.....

In all some $90 million for project in loans and grants are being programmed to come on stream over the next year. Arrangements were
also carefully negotiated for Belize to qualify at a minimum
cost to be a member of Interamerican Investment
Corporation, the private sector arm of the Bank. This will
allow businesses in Belize access to new hard currency credit,
guarantees, and specialized professional services.....

Minister Fonseca and the delegation also met and held
discussions with investors interested in housing, tourism,
banking, capital markets and the offshore industry.

The delegation returned to Belize over the weekend."
