New NCR Data Warehouse Solutions Designed to Help Retailers
Better Manage Merchandise Assortment by Store

ATLANTA, Oct. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- NCR Corporation today announced a suite of high performance
merchandising solutions that help retailers optimize merchandise assortments in their stores to improve service to
consumers. The retail solutions -- Sales Analysis, Inventory Analysis, and Assortment Management -- are
designed to be readily customized and quickly implemented.

These are the initial releases in NCR's Merchandise Management and Analysis (MM&A) program. Future
announcements will include solutions for improving promotional effectiveness and management of vendor
relationships.

"Our experience in designing and implementing data warehouses for many of the world's leading retailers provides
a solid foundation for the NCR Merchandise Management and Analysis program," said Rick Schultz, NCR's vice
president for Retail Industry Computer Marketing. "We have captured that experience to provide business
solutions that are readily customized to the unique needs and strategies of individual retailers. These solutions can
be implemented more rapidly and offer faster payback and enhanced return on investment, compared to data
warehouses that are built from scratch.

"NCR Merchandise Management and Analysis provides key functionality for retailers who are implementing a high
performance merchandising solution, including those businesses installing their first data warehouse," Schultz said.
"This initial set of offers is designed to help retailers merchandise each store as a 'neighborhood store' that is
stocked to meet the unique demands of consumers who shop at that location."

Sales Analysis helps retailers better understand trends and improve margins through the use of detailed information
in the data warehouse. It enables them to make merchandising decisions based on analysis of key criteria such as
top-selling items, slow movers, item contribution, sell-through percent, and size/color trending.

Inventory Analysis helps retailers leverage their data warehouse information to better tune inventory at a local level
and improve profitability by identifying and avoiding out of stock and overstocked merchandise. Sales Analysis
and Inventory Analysis both allow merchandising decisions to be made by individual store, by day, with
comparisons to plan and prior year.

Assortment Management helps retailers assure that consumers find the merchandise they want, when they shop. It
combines sales and inventory analyses to help retailers optimize assortments by store, department, category, and
item level, as appropriate.

The Merchandise Management and Analysis program offers fully integrated solutions combining business
functionality with NCR's Teradata(R) database, hardware and support services, and with third-party decision
support or on- line analytical processing (OLAP) tools. NCR consulting and implementation services complete the
solution, helping retailers quickly customize and deliver business applications.

NCR's Merchandise Management and Analysis solutions have been pre-tested and certified with OLAP products
from MicroStrategy(R) Incorporated (Nasdaq: MSTR), a leading worldwide provider of decision support
systems. MicroStrategy's DSS tools are designed to deliver information from industrial- strength databases, such
as Teradata, providing timely answers to mission- critical questions.

"The decision support capabilities provided by NCR Merchandise Management and Analysis complement the
Forecasting, Planning and Replenishment applications made available through NCR's recently-announced
investment in Stirling Douglas Group," Schultz said. "Together, these programs form the backbone of NCR's high
performance merchandising solutions portfolio and help enable retailers to implement 'active warehouse' solutions
that automate key operational processes."
