Michelle,
I get you and Melissa mixed up and I am too tired to go back and look who I traded thoughts with. I still come back to the mid-market.

SAP has traditionally been Fortune 1000- overwhelmingly so. PSFT has tried to move into this market with a vertical tool (HRMS). They have done well. They then tried to dovetail other products onto that vertical beach head (classic Chasm marketing and product mix). They did well initially, but SAP has shifted focus and is defending their territory. Usually marketshare wins this battle.

PSFT would do well to focus on a new market or a new vertical. Since verticals are pretty carved out, they either need to acquire a company or retarget existing products into a new market.

I think the answer lies in the mid-market space. Companies that have $10M in revenues need accounting, HR and financial control. If PSFT can lower the TCO for their products into this space, they carve out a new niche that SAP has never done well in.

For this market, TCO is critical. To lower TCO, they need to lower services. To lower services, they have to get the product out of the hands of Anderson and E&Y. If I could do that, I might be typing from the Bahamas vs my desk.

I agree with general sentiment that the bottom has not be tested. Market is going to trend down, especially towards the end of the year. I would wait until mid to late December. I am not a day trader so I will buy on dips and stick it away for my kids(still absent, atleast that I know <g>). If I do nothing else effectively as a parent, they will thank me for that move. This company is a good company on a long term basis. Short term, it is all buying...
