Onsale Hits Milestone With Eight-Millionth Bid

MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 26, 1998--ONSALE(R) Inc. (Nasdaq:ONSL), a leading Internet real-time retailer, today reported that more than eight million bids have been placed on its web site at www.onsale.com. The bid was made less than two months after reaching the seven-millionth bid.
"Surpassing the eight-millionth bid so quickly illustrates the growing popularity of the auction format as a viable retail channel," said Jerry Kaplan, ONSALE's chief executive officer. "For the quarter ended September, ONSALE saw continued growth in a number of important metrics. These included an average of 1.1 million daily page views and an average of 114,000 unique visitors a day." ONSALE also had a total of 822,000 people registered to bid by the end of the quarter.
A customer from Austin, Texas, who has placed several bids and won several items, made the eight millionth bid for an SVEC ethernet adapter for laptops.
