Jack,

This is a relatively difficult area to get a handle on if you are not "into" the business. I've been investing somewhat in this area for about 18 months now, so I am comfortable with the projects and I had some guidance from some people who have good contacts within the industry. The absolute best place to learn about the company and their products are the websites. Some of these sites have white papers on the technology so you can get comfortable with the terms and how the components fit together.

electronicnews.com <- use search engine there

nwfusion.com <- networking industry

semibiznews.com

fabtech.org <- big index of sites

redherring.com < all sorts of bleeding edge high tech companies.

What I would suggest is that you visit the home pages of the companies first, get a feel for the jargon, then use these sites to search on that jargon. Once you read enough all of this stuff starts to make sense.

You could also monitor the SI threads on these companies. Some people are good and some are crap, but they are easy to spot. The PMCS thread has some very good postings and is more civilized than most SI threads.
