I think that moving into speakers and amps was a good move because
it broadens the product base, and these are products which are less
likely to become quickly obsolete. I see mixers for use in live sound
being analog for the foreseeable future, the most difficult market
segment to predict is what people will use for digital recording and
complete solutions such as Rolands box (I think its called a VS880)
which have a built in mixer will cut into the demand for mixers. I
don't know how successful Yamaha's digital mixer has been but I don't
know of anyone who owns one. I'm sure that Mackie is not going to
give away too many details of their digital products at this stage
but I think that by having a more diverse mix of products they can
keep the company profitable while introducing their digital products
which could be highly successful but are by no means guaranteed to
be hot sellers.

When I talked with a salesman at my local music store he thought that
the Power amps would be a hot product, and so do I (speaking as
someone who bought a QSC amp last year). I'm not so sure about how
the powered monitors (last I heard they were due to ship in February)
will do, it's something I don't know a whole lot about.

I suspect that a lot of people (including myself) are waiting for
the fourth quarter results before making any more moves. I bought
Mackie as a long term investment so I'm more interested in the results
than in the current price but if the results look good and the stock
price doesn't pick up I might buy some more.
