So what you want to do is take the 80 grit sand paper on the drum sander and for the first run you want to run the sander diagonally against the grain of the floor. This will level out the bumps and sags making a level surface. Then you want to sand again with the grain with 120 grit paper. This gets rid of any rough score marks. Finally you want to use a fine sandpaper to give it a smooth finish. After sanding we vacuum the area , remember to get all of the dust. Finally we are using a clear poly urethane finish. We roll the first coat on, allowing it to dry 4 hours. Then we lightly sand, vacuum, and roal on another coat. Allow to dry 4 hours, sand, and a final coat using the beaver brush. And voila, a beautiful hard wood floor. So what do you think Bob. I like it, with the new tongue and groove pine on the walls, and the rejuvenated Maple flooring this old house has been transformed into a warm invited living space.
