Thanks for the time and effort it took to locate and gather these posts!!

It has helped a lot, but I am still not 100% clear on something. Perhaps someone can help me out.

I have worked with the FileNet system in the (distant) past. Basically, it was a scanning and storage system for pictures of original hard-copy documents. Identification and categorization information was entered at the time the original document was scanned into the system. Then, a picture of the original document could be easily found, viewed and/or printed.

This is not the same as an optical character recognition (OCR) system that attempts to convert the contents of the original document into electronic format that then can be edited and manipulated.

From reading the posts that you have listed, it appears so much is being done with the documents and information on the documents, that it indicates that the original documents are actually being converted to something the computer can understand and manipulate, not just a picture of the original document. If true, this is very impressive, but I could be all wet.
