Possibly the few that are traded on Instinet affect the totals. Also, if you are reading the WSJ and I'm taking it from BMI but on one set-up I have software that shuts down at 4:00 for the NYSE session but on the other it continues into Globex then I actually will have different numbers from the same provider. Because the run-off will change the number after 4:00.

The runoff is important because one service may include it and another won't. Then too, one service may include the Third Market which trades a little later than the NYSE. The Third Market being the PSE.

These are just thoughts but I think it shows that there can be a lot of variables. Over a 25 day period it should smooth out somewhat.
