Perhaps a few words re. my buy/hold/trade options & small caps strategy are in order.
When investing in small caps, I always had the intention of holding them for the long haul. But, as you know, these companies usually travel a zigzag path before making it to big time, if indeed at all. Thus, investors must be nibble on their feet to deal with situations as they come.
I had three small stocks going into 1998: RMBS, which is on its way to big time; ILOGY which I will continue to hold despite the fact that the stocks has been in the ditches; and CLRT which I took partial profit to cover my initial cost due to the uncertainties facing this company.
In general, for traders of small caps, the first half of the year is a safer period than the latter half due to tax consequences and the highly "transient" nature of the stocks' ownership.
