MCI WorldCom to Offer High-Speed Internet Access in U.S. in '99

Jackson, Mississippi, Nov. 18 (Bloomberg) -- MCI WorldCom
Inc. said it will begin offering high-speed Internet connections
to businesses and online services over regular telephone lines by
early 1999, matching rivals' plans for similar data services.

MCI WorldCom said its so-called digital subscriber line, or
DSL, service will be tested by Earthlink Network Inc. and No. 1
online service America Online Inc. by the end of this year.

The service will be offered to business customers through
MCI WorldCom's UUNet Internet service in 25 major U.S.
metropolitan markets by March of 1999. The business service will
be offered to corporate customers starting at $500 per month.

MCI WorldCom will charge Internet service providers a
variable fee based on how many consumers use the service.

Sprint Communications Inc. said it will offer similar high-
speed data services. DSL Internet connections are up 10 times
faster than regular phone-based links.
