Hello Jim,
I have been toying with my new PCA/AIM "simulator" and plugged in the DAILY price of Inktomi since it went public. Here are the results.

INPUTS:

Initial Stock Price   $36.000
Ticker Symbol   INKT
Initial Number of Shares   400
Start Date   6/10/98
Minimum Market Order   $500
Commission Per Trade   15.00
Optional Beginning Cash   0
Beginning Portfolio Value   $28,800

RESULTS:

Total Portfolio Value   $63,434
Profit / Loss   $34,634
Stock Value   $26,270
Cash Reserve     $37,164
Shares owned     145
Cost per Share    $-84.780
Current Share Price     $153.625
Current Trade Advice    $-3926

Notice how the system locked in profits and sold all but 145 shares.
With a run-up from 36 to 154, I would prefer AIM to lump-sum,buy/hold
investing as far as the ulcer indicator any day.
I wonder how many individual investors bought on the IPO and are still holding today?

By the way, it took 10 times as long to "paste" this example here than it did to run it.

Good Investing,
Bill
