When one hears the S&P referred to I've always thought that this was the composite of the 500 companies. PERIOD.

Yes...I'm still not grasping things... I guess the easiest way without fumbling with a weird question is to ask you to elaborate on the S&P 500 futures contract; the ^SPX. How is an option on the cash index different from a futures contract? See, I asked a weird question anyway...<g>
