Depends on whether we're talking about a fad, or the creation of new dominant businesses in revolutionary industries. If you've studied investing history, you've probably heard the many stories of the mail room clerks who started out with Xerox, GM, IBM or Microsoft who would up as mega-millionaires from some paltry stock holdings. If the future indeed rests with AOL and YHOO, then these are not merely ephemeral fads, but rather the building blocks of a new mammoth industry.
