Can the Internet mania continue, or should we expect the bubble to burst? If there needs to be a correction, when will it be?

Please tell me how the market hysteria for internet stocks is different than the pre-christmas rush to buy the latest hot toy. Cabbage Patch Kids, Tickle-Me-Elmo, America Online, Amazon.com, the market mentality seems to be the same. When will rational investing return?
