daytraders in trading rooms like this usually don't sit all day and trade. The fact that this is such intense work and the fact that many of us understand that much of the best trading takes place when mkt first opens till about 11:00 am. Many of these traders will only trade for a few hours each day.
Barb, evidently you did not read the article I posted the other day as you appear to be mistaken in your concept of what the day is like for a daytrader.
They're an odd lot—ex-lawyers, ex-salesmen, even ex-brokers, who now come to "work" wearing jeans, flannel shirts, and baseball caps. Anyone can enlist, provided he has the stomach for it. To day trade, you have to be willing to lose money on approximately one-third of your trades—and that's if you're good. You also have to stare at a terminal screen for eight hours a day, making quick, confident decisions. "I rarely leave my seat," Brenner says. "Frequently, I forget to eat lunch." One experienced trader at Block remembers the day CNBC announced British Telecom was purchasing MCI. "People returned from lunch and found out that those of us who had stayed had made $4,000," he says.
